Pray for our Nation and Community on May 1
This Thursday, May 1, is the 57th Annual National Day of Prayer. This year’s theme is "Prayer! America's Strength and Shield." This theme comes from Psalm 28:7: "The Lord is my strength and shield; my heart trusts in Him and I am helped." Join us as we unite with people across the nation in praying for our local, state and national government officials. There are two opportunities to pray together:
Noon — in front of the Wauconda Community Center (across from the village hall)
7 pm — here at church
If you are unable to attend either of these events, consider participating in the nationally broadcast observances from 11:00 noon—2:00 pm (Central time) and from 9:30 PM – 11:30 PM (Central Time) on GOD TV on DIRECTV channel 365 or live on the web at www.god.tv . Dr. James Dobson, Dr. Ravi Zacharias, Mrs. Shirley Dobson, Sec. Condoleezza Rice (pending) are among those participating in the national prayer broadcasts.

Beans Will Speak May 4 on their Missionary Work in Peru
It’s always great to have missionaries that we support through our budget-giving come to share with us how God is working in and through their ministry. We’re excited that Mark & Patti Bean will be with us next Sunday, May 4. Mark & Patti were a vital part of our church family while Mark was studying at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School over 25 years ago. The Beans are missionaries with Wycliffe Bible Translators and work in translating the Bible into the Quechua language in Peru.
In addition to briefly speaking at the worship services, they will share their experiences with the combined Adult Bible Fellowships at 9:45 and with the children in Transformation City at 11 am. Following the 2nd service, Mark and Patti will join us at our monthly “Brown Bag Prayer Meeting.” After hearing more about their work over lunch we will spend time in prayer with them for God’s continued blessing upon their ministry.
Support the Tri-County’s Annual Hike for Life on May 10
Will you help support the ministry of Tri-County Pregnancy & Parenting Services by taking part or supporting a participant in the annual hike on May 10. Although it's called a "hike," you can walk, run, roller-blade or even ride a bike. You can choose to hike in Crystal Lake or Grayslake. Registration begins at 8 am and the walk concludes by 11 am. This is a great event to participate in as a family. There will be face-painting and other fun events for kids!
The Registration details with sponsor forms on the back are available on the brochure rack in the foyer or online. If you can’t hike, consider donating anyway. You can do that online at www.tricountypps.org.
Women's Ministries Hosts Spring Tea on Saturday May 10
All adult women are invited to come join us on Saturday, May 17 from 10-12 AM for food, fellowship, fun and a "spot of tea"! Come hear what God is laying on women's hearts. Hear from God's Word what He desires us to do. Meet our deaconesses, ministry heads, and hear about exciting, upcoming opportunities and activities for growth and fellowship. Leave with "fresh" vision for how you can be a part of what He is doing! All women 18 and up are invited!
Battalion Mountain Biking Trip on Saturday May 10
All boys in Battalion and their families are encouraged to spend May 10 mountain biking on the John Muir hiking and biking trail system. The cost is $11 for those under 16 and $15 for 16 and over. The fee includes lunch barbecue, gas and trail pass, but bring extra money for a fast-food dinner on the way home. Call Jim Wiser at 847-526-9212 for more information, or pick up forms at the Welcome Center.
Get Ready for a Great Praise Gathering on May 18
You won’t want to miss our next Praise Gathering that will be Sunday morning, May 18, at both of our worship services. God is very much alive and active in our world and the Good News of the gospel continues to change lives, rebuild relationships, and restore hope. Be thinking now about what you can share with your church family about how you have seen God working in your life or in your world.
Can You Help Minister in the Nursery?
Would you consider helping in this ministry even if you don’t have children in the nurseries? A well-staffed nursery allows parents to worship free of concern for their children. As we all take a turn, no one has to serve very often. The schedule is made on a 4 or 5 week rotation. The more help we have, the less often people are scheduled. Thanks for considering this! Questions? Contact nursery coordinator Julie Draeger or leave a message at the church office.
Get Help with Your Spring Cleaning Projects AND Help Our Youth Group!
Spring is finally upon us, at least according to the calendar, and that means spring-cleaning. You can help support students going to Challenge 2008 in Salt Lake City this summer by using them to do some of your spring cleaning and/or odd jobs around your house. Call Jeremy at the church if you have work to be done and we will give you the names of students interested in earning support money in this way.
Volunteers Needed for Transformation City this Summer
Many people have expressed an interest in having Transformation City available during the summer months. In order to make this happen, we need adults who are willing to help in the program. The time commitment is not huge. In fact, if enough people volunteer just once a month, we would be able to continue this program through the summer. If you’re interested, please contact Wendy or leave a message for her at the Church Office.
