Our Church's Governance
The Evangelical Free Church of Wauconda, in keeping with the tradition of the Evangelical Free Church of America, believes in a congregational style of church government. Although congregational government can be expressed in a variety of ways, it basically means that the church members themselves have final approval regarding major church issues. These major issues include the selection of pastors, approval of the annual budget, the election of church board members, the approval of new members to the church, land aquisition, and building programs. This distinguishes us from many other denominations where major decisions are decided for the congregation.
Our church congregation meets quarterly to consider these matters.
However, the congregation need not approve each item regarding the day-to-day management of the church or pastoral duties. To oversee the spiritual direction of the church, we rely on our Elders, our Deaconesses and our Church Leadership Board.
