Jeremy Vale Presented as Candidate for Pastor of Student Ministries

The Pastor of Sudent Ministries Search Committee is excited to present Jeremy Vale as our candidate. Information packets are available at the Welcome Center, the library and at the south entrance to the church.   Please note and take advantage of the following opportunities to meet with Jeremy before the vote on his candidacy is held on October 26.

A church-wide Question-and-Answer night is scheduled for Sunday, October 5 at 6:30 pm.  During the week of October 5, Jeremy will be available to meet with anyone or any group that wishes to spend additional time with him.  Please contact the church office if you are interested in meeting with Jeremy to discuss his candidacy in greater depth. On Sunday, October 19 at 6:30 pm in the lower fellowship hall, there will be an opportunity to discuss the candidacy with the Search Committee.

On Sunday, October 26 at 6:30 pm, during the quarterly Congregational Business Meeting, the church members will vote on Jeremy for Pastor of Student Ministries.  Members who can not attend the Congregation Business Meeting should contact the church office for information regarding absentee ballots.

Join Us for Adult Bible Fellowships Each Sunday at 9:45

Adult Bible Fellowships (ABF) provide a great way to meet and connect with people whose interests are similar to yours.  Currently, our church offers three ABF groups and one Adult BasicChristianity class every Sunday morning from 9:45 until 10:45, between the Early and Late Services.

Guided Roots.  This group is currently studying the book "Raising Respectful Children in a Disrespectful World."  Guided Roots meets in Room 106, downstairs in our church building.  Although the group is primarily composed of men and women in their 20s and early 30s, anyone is welcome to attend.

Strong Foundations.  Dave Noga is teaching on Discipleship in this ABF.  Strong Foundations meets at the north end the lower fellowship hall. Strong Foundations generally addresses topics of most interest to those in their mid-30s through their 40s, but anyone is welcome to join this group.

Faith Builders.  Paul's letter to the Ephesians is the subject of Ed Raymond's teaching in the current Faith Builders series.  This AFB meets in the south end of the lower fellowship hall.  It is designed primarily for those age 50 and older, but, as with the other groups, anyone is invited to attend.

Adult Basic Christianity.  Designed for those who are new believers, but just as valuable for every believer who wants to truly understand the basics of the Christian faith, this class meets in the Upper Room, which is reached using the stairs directly behind the left sanctuary doors.  Denny Phillips and Kevin Barnes lead the class.  However, the class is characterized by lively and in-depth discussions sparked by the course material and the members experience as they follow Christ in their day-to-day lives.

Register Online Now for New Pictorial Directory, or at Church Starting October 5

Our church is growing, and it's been a while since the last pictorial directory, so we are planning a new edition.  Our photo dates are November 6, 7, and 8.

Registration for photo sessions will begin at the church on October 5, but you can get your choice of times by going online NOW and reserving your spot from the convenience of your home. Refer to your church bulletin or call the church office for the scheduling website, and the user name and password that you need to access the site.

Bring in Donations for the Food Pantry on September 27-28

Our involvement this year begins with a food drive. The Evangelical Free Church of Wauconda is a collection location for the churches in our area! If you picked up and distributed flyers to your neighbors asking them for their donations, then collect those donations on Saturday, September 27 and bring them to the church on either Saturday or Sunday, September 28.  We are accepting donations both days from 10 AM to 3PM.

You can also bring in your own donations, even if you were not able to distribute flyers to your neighbors. The Daily Herald ran a story on the event and included a bag for donations in the Sunday, September 21 newspaper, but you can use any bag or box to hold the donations. We also need volunteers to help receive the donations. If you can volunteer for a couple of hours on either of those days, please contact Jan Sabourin ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ).

Seniors: Plan to Attend the Potluck Lunch on September 30 at 12:30

All seniors are invited to attend the monthly potluck lunch on September 30, at 12:30 in the lower fellowship hall.  Please bring a dish to share and your own tableware.  Beverages and dessert will be provided.  This month Jeremy Vale, our candidate for Pastor of Student Ministries, will join the group to speak about his vision for the youth in our church and community and to answer any questions that the group has.  (Meeting with Jeremy and sharing our ideas, plans and hopes will be an excellent preparation for the third study from "Growing Older & Wiser"--"Listening to the Young.")

Mark Your Calendars for ShareFest 2008 on October 11

We are excited to again serve our community as part of Lake County Catalyst's Sharefest. Each fall Catalyst of Lake County sponsors ShareFest: A Season of Sharing.  The goal of ShareFest is to witness to the different that Jesus Christ can make in our lives by uniting to do loving acts of service in our immediate area.

Why ShareFest? The ShareFest website provides to these answers!

  • To express an overflow of gratitude for all that God has done for us in Jesus Christ
  • Jesus modeled and taught servant hood as a way of life
  • God calls us to compassion for the less fortunate and needy
  • It is more blessed to give than receive
  • To make a real difference in the quality of life for our neighbors
  • To bring glory to our God through unifying our churches
  • To initiate long-term relationships in our communities

We are also already starting to plan for ShareFest 2008.

On Saturday, October 11, we will have the chance to serve the community in a variety of ways! Last year, volunteers helped with home cleaning and home repair, delivered meals to the police and fire departments, visited nursing homes, helped at the public library and cleaned up along Route 12. This year there will be just as many ways to serve--either for a few hours or a full day.

Be a part of our team!  We have opportunities for all types of service!  These include:

  1. Raking and light year work
  2. Heavy yard work
  3. Inside cleaning
  4. Skilled carpentry
  5. Carpentary-type work under a skilled person's supervision
  6. Food preparation - for workers and for delivery to the Wauconda & Island Lake police and fire stations
  7. Presentation of programs at nursing homes
  8. Assist with projects at the Wauconda Public Library
  9. Provide manicures/pedicures to homebound individuals
  10.  Provide hairstyling for homebound individuals

Call the church office to volunteer!  Also, please contact the church office if you know of anyone who could use our services during ShareFest.  If you'd like to do more (or can't participate on October 11), you can volunteer for other projects during the ShareFest on their website: http://www.sharefest.net/involved.asp.

Food Pantry Donations Are Always Needed

Rising food and gas prices are a challenge for everyone, but for those on a fixed income or those without steady work, these increased costs can force many to seek assistance at area food pantries. Please remember that we have a box for donations to the Wauconda/Island Lake Food Pantry located in the coat room.

Hearing Devices Are Available for Use During Service

This is a reminder that we have four headsets available for those who have difficulty hearing. You may check them out at the sound board before the service.

Do You Have a Story for our Newsletter?

Seeds for the Sower, our church newsletter is published each month. The newsletters goal is to share what is going on in our church and help us get to know one another and the various ministries in our church family. The deadline for articles to be considered is the 22nd of each month. We like the stories to be short and readable. Please contact the church office if you wish to have something included in the newsletter.

Remember to Check the Lost & Found

Items left behind after Services, Adult Bible Fellowship, Sunday School or church meetings are placed in the "lost and found," which is located in the coat room. Please check to see if anything belongs to you. Items not claimed will be passed on to those who can use them.
