Qualifications:  This pastor shall be a man of established and true Christian character, sound in faith and doctrine and qualified to preach and teach the Word of God as setforth in I Timothy 3:1-7; 4:12-15; II Timothy 2:15; Titus 1: 5-9.  The pastor must subscribe to the Constitution and By laws as well as the Articles of Faith of the Evangelical Free Church of Wauconda.  If he lacks current credentials with the Evangelical Free Church of America he will secure said credentials within the first year of employment.

Responsibilities:  He will be responsible for the following areas:

  • Prayer – The Senior Pastor shall deliberately seek solitude in order to invest significant time in the ministry of pastoral prayer.  The ministry of prayer is his highest priority.  By word and personal example he shall especially encourage other leaders to pray and shall pray with other church leaders on a regular basis.  The ministry of prayer is foundational for the church since all other forms of ministry depend on God’s power released through prayer.

  • Preaching – The Senior Pastor will delegate as much ministry as possible to others so that he has the necessary preparation time to preach.  He shall be responsible for seeing that the proclamation of God’s Word is closely tied to the Scriptural text.  He shall spend the necessary time in study and prayer in order to preach with accuracy, in a manner easily understood, with relevant and timely application, and with the goal of compelling listeners to action that leads to lives being transformed through the power of the Holy Spirit.

  • Vision – From our mission statement and core values he will engage, with the Elders, Board and Deaconesses the creative process of translating this vision into tangible ministry.  He will see to it that these are constantly promoted, maintained and evaluated.

  • Shepherding – The Senior Pastor is to be responsible for the shepherding of the flock.  As a shepherd guards, guides, feeds and cares for his sheep, the Senior Pastor needs to be aware of the condition of his flock, implementing and overseeing ministries that respond to the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of the flock.

  • Leadership – He shall endeavor to create an atmosphere where other staff will work with him and in harmony with one another to achieve the mission statement and core values of the church.  He will be responsible for overseeing and evaluating the pastoral and support staff.

  • Discipling – He will work with the Pastoral Staff and lay leaders in the training of believers bringing them to full maturity in Christ so that they can reproduce other believers.
